Weighing yourself regularly, but not too often, is a good way to monitor and encourage weight loss. Do a weight "check in" once a week. This helps you know where you are at, and allows you to set goals for the next week, month, etc. Weighing in more than this might be discouraging since weight can fluctuate a few pounds from day to day, even if you are sticking to your diet.
Yogurt is a great snack to have when trying to lose weight. Low-fat and plain yogurts are the best choice. Plain yogurt with a little salt and pepper makes a great salad dressing. Adding fruit to yogurt that's plain will help cut back on sugar and calories. Yogurt also contains calcium, a necessary nutrient for bones.
Don't avoid fats if you want to lose weight. When starting a diet, many people make the mistake of deciding that fat equals weight gain. They try to completely remove it from their diets. Keep in mind, however, that there are good fats and bad fats. Your body needs good fats. Items like olives, nuts, and fish, are good sources of healthy fats.
Drink coffee to suppress your appetite. Some people think that drinking coffee speeds your metabolism. Studies have found that this might not be entirely true. It does, however, work to suppress hunger and food cravings. If you are worried about your caffeine intake, try drinking decaf instead. It has the same benefits.
