SynthEdit is primarily a modular synthesizer but it does have basic support for playing samples. The intention is to use samples as the basis for further processing, not so much to create fully featured sample playback plugins.

Modules for sampling:
* Wave Player - This module can load an play a single wav format file.
* Soundfont Player - This module can play Soundfont (*.sf2) format files. It does not support all features of the format, just basic sample playback and key and velocity mapping. This is an all-in-one module that does not allow access to the individual voices.
* Sample Oscillator - A newer Soundfont format player, also with only support for sample playback, key and velocity mapping. This module allows you to add your own filters and envelopes and LFO etc externally to the module. So is more flexible.
